in the garden Nurturing Nature

Family friendly events for children

The New Inn, Norton Lindsey organise a series of family friendly nature events in the garden for pre-school and primary aged children

Please keep your eye on our events page for details of dates and times for these events

spring Activity Sheet

For Spring, we have created a Word Search & Colouring Sheet that is available in the pub, complete with crayons, or if you prefer, you can download it from HERE to use at home.

the New Inn Bug Hotel

Nurturing Nature would like to provide hidey-holes for creatures galore. Building a bug hotel (also known as a wildlife hotel or stack) in the Enchanted Garden will provide a safe hideaway for wildlife and help make use of your garden waste. A well-built hotel can shelter anything from hedgehogs to toads, solitary bees to bumblebees, and ladybirds to woodlice

To provide materials for this, if you have any of the following please could you email

Old wooden pallets
Strips of wood
Dry leaves
Old terracotta pots
Bricks, preferably those with holes through them

Old roofing tiles
Old logs
Hollow bamboo canes
Planks of wood
Dead hollow stems cut from shrubs and herbaceous plants.

in May Grow your own sunflower

in May Sunflower Planting

Due to the ongoing work to complete the community shop, the New Inn garden won’t be available in May 2023 to host this event, so for this year, we will have to give Sunflower Planting a miss.

HOWEVER! To keep up the spirit of Nurturing Nature, we do have a Word Search & Colouring Sheet that is available in the pub, complete with crayons, or if you prefer, you can download it from HERE to use at home.

In May, join us in the Enchanted Garden to plant your sunflower seed: while you are there enjoy Kate’s Storytree and explore the residents of the bug hotels. Take your sunflower home and nurture it, returning to the garden with it in June to plant it in the garden. Judging will take place in September. It’s only £2 per child to join in the fun.

in August Bedtime Stories

in August Stories Under the Stars

In August, Kate’s Storytree will be setting up under the trees in the garden with blankets and cushions to read you bedtime stories while you gaze at the stars. Come dressed for bed, all teddy bears welcome. We’ll also be offering hot chocolate and homemade biscuits.

in October Halloween

in October Halloween in the Garden

We have a few ideas about this one, but haven’t yet decided exactly what we will be doing on the day – BUT, the date for your diary is Monday 30th October (which is during half-term).

in December Christmas Decorations

in December Christmas Decorations

During the build-up to Christmas, it is difficult to find activities to engage little ones in the open air, join us in the garden to make decorations to adorn the pub’s outdoor tree. Using natural materials you can design your own. We will also be serving hot chocolate and homemade biscuits.

Nurturing Nature at the New Inn is a not-for-profit group, all monies raised from events will be used for future events and to maintain the children’s garden.
